California Electrical energy Supplier MCE Brings Extra Solar On-line

MCE, a not-for-profit renewable electrical energy supplier in northern California, continues to increase its native renewable energy portfolio with two new solar tasks in Contra Costa and Napa counties.

The 1 MW Byron Hot Springs Solar venture in unincorporated Contra Costa County has a 20-year time period with Renewable Properties, a industrial solar energy developer. Located on high of a storage facility, Napa Self Storage 2 will provide 0.65 MW of solar power over its 20-year time period with Shorebreak Energy Developers.

“Projects like these are helping us secure a carbon-free future,” says Shanelle Scales-Preston, chair of MCE’s board of administrators. “All renewable projects – including roof-top, community solar and utility-scale projects – are necessary. We need all of the above to meet our growing needs.”

To assist incentivize native renewable tasks, MCE purchases electrical energy at an above-market charge by its Feed-in Tariff (FIT) program. The FIT program is essential to increasing native renewable energy tasks that present high quality jobs with family-sustaining wages.

“We are thrilled to support the growth of MCE’s energy portfolio, allowing both parties to supply renewable energy while positively impacting California’s residents, businesses and environment,” says David Firestone, proprietor of Shorebreak Energy Developers.

The two new tasks began industrial operation in June 2023; had been constructed with prevailing wage labor with 50% of labor hours coming from inside MCE’s service space; and enhance MCE’s complete FIT tasks to 18.

In complete, MCE has almost 48 MW of renewable energy throughout 23 tasks serving just below 20,000 properties in its service space.
