As part of the Biden administration’s Investing in America agenda, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has introduced 5 competitively chosen greater training establishments to function Centers of Excellence for DOE’s Industrial Assessment Centers (IAC) Program and can obtain a mixed $18.7 million in funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

The new Regional Centers of Excellence will improve and increase the IAC Program by serving as regional hubs for this system that collaborate and coordinate with authorities, nonprofit, labor, and business actors to coach clear energy employees and help small- and medium-sized producers in every respective areas. Two of the 5 selectees, and 7 of the partnering establishments, are Minority-Serving Institutions (MSI).
Each of the selectees will deliver distinctive capabilities in strengthening the IAC community:
- Great Plains Center of Excellence at Oklahoma State University (Stillwater, OK), in partnership with Northern Oklahoma College, Wichita State University, and the University of Nebraska, will advance the IAC community’s use of technology-driven assessments – together with by way of use of cellular functions, drones, and digital/augmented actuality. - Mid-Atlantic Center of Excellence at Lehigh University (Bethlehem, PA), in partnership with West Virginia University, will increase the IAC community’s engagement with unions, commerce colleges, and group faculties, and develop new evaluation methodologies to higher serve small producers.
- Gulf Coast Center of Excellence at Texas A&M University (College Station, TX), a nationwide chief in distant and hybrid assessments, will speed up the IAC community’s rising emphasis on industrial decarbonization, electrification, and resiliency planning.
- Western Center of Excellence at San Francisco State University (San Francisco, CA), in partnership with San Jose State University, San Diego State University, Laney College, and Cuyamaca College – a bunch of 5 main minority-serving establishments –will apply their experience in data-driven monitoring to judge and enhance producer efficiency, renewable energy, energy demand administration, thermal methods design, and waste and water administration to boost manufacturing competitiveness throughout the Western U.S.
