Leeward Contracts for two GW of First Solar PV Modules

First Solar Inc. has signed an settlement to produce 2 GW DC of thin-film photovoltaic modules to Leeward Renewable Energy (LRE), to be delivered in 2026 and 2027.

The settlement builds on LRE’s current relationship with First Solar as a serious purchaser and operator of the corporate’s solar know-how. This newest settlement is predicted to take LRE’s whole fleet of First Solar modules to virtually 6 GW DC by 2028.

First Solar is increasing its U.S. manufacturing footprint, which at the moment stands at roughly 6 GW of annual nameplate capability, with three working factories in Ohio. The firm is predicted to achieve greater than 10 GW of annual nameplate capability within the U.S. by 2025, when it’s scheduled to finish its new $1.1 billion manufacturing unit in Alabama and a $185 million growth of its current capability in Ohio. First Solar can also be investing as much as $370 million in a brand new analysis and improvement innovation heart in Ohio.
