Photovoltaic solar installers are maybe essentially the most seen face of the renewable energy transition. Solar installers can even face an added degree of scrutiny, and rightfully so. From outright dishonesty to well-meaning companies that merely went out of enterprise and left methods stranded, there isn’t any scarcity of aggrieved solar patrons posting 1 star evaluations or making headlines.

As the business grows by leaps and bounds this decade, and as much more new firms open/broaden to fulfill demand (and attempt to fill new jobs), the necessity to solidify greatest practices grows proper together with it. This is why nonprofits Solar United Neighbors (SUN) and Green Energy Ohio (GEO) are inviting Ohio solar installers to hitch a neighborhood of firms to take the Code of Ethics for Solar Installers pledge.

SUN and GEO have long-standing relationships with solar installers all through the state. This initiative acknowledges and rewards firms who observe moral enterprise practices.

“Nearly all solar installers in the state work hard to give their customers a great experience, ensure they are fair, and do quality work. It’s frightening to know that a few, mostly out of state, bad actors are giving their industry a bad reputation,” stated Jane Harf, Executive Director of Green Energy Ohio.

“Our primary goal is to protect solar consumers by giving installers a place to express their commitment to their customers and ethical business practices,” stated Tristan Rader, Solar United Neighbors Ohio Program Director.

There are just a few unhealthy actors within the solar business who’ve adopted unethical gross sales and advertising and marketing practices, left tasks unfinished, and misrepresented prices. These unhealthy actors damage customers and the business as an entire. While there are comparatively few of those unhealthy actors their actions have an simple detrimental influence on all who work within the solar business.

The teams sat that after the installer indicators the pledge and agrees to abide by the practices contained within the Code of Ethics, they are going to be added to solarethics.org and be given a “Pledge Badge.” Installers can then embody the badge on advertising and marketing supplies and their web site.
