Renewable Properties, a developer and investor in small-scale utility and neighborhood solar initiatives, and Sonoma Clean Power (SCP), a neighborhood selection aggregator (CCA), have signed power buy agreements (PPAs) for 2 solar initiatives. One of the initiatives, situated in Ukiah, California, will embody energy storage. Both initiatives will contribute to SCP’s native useful resource plan for its EverGreen service, which provides subscribers 100% renewable, regionally generated energy 24/7 by means of solar, energy storage and geothermal power.
One of Renewable Properties’ two solar initiatives will embody a 4 MW/16 MWh battery that can primarily be used to seize solar energy generated throughout the center of the day and redeploy the energy within the night hours when clients want it most. In addition to energy shifting, the battery can easy variable solar manufacturing and supply frequency regulation, dispatch reserves, and different grid providers that improve the resiliency of the native power distribution community.
The solar and storage initiatives will complement the baseload energy generated by The Geysers, SCP’s current native geothermal power plant and one of many largest geothermal crops on the earth.
“Renewable Properties is committed to developing small-scale utility renewable energy projects that directly serve the communities we operate in,” mentioned Brian von Moos, chief working officer at Renewable Properties. “We’re pleased to support Sonoma Clean Power, a pioneer in delivering locally generated renewable energy, with these projects that provide renewable energy when their customers need it most.”
The initiatives, each situated in Mendocino County, will begin development in March 2024 and are anticipated to be accomplished by early 2025. The 4.99 MWac Twin Pines Circle Solar mission, in Laytonville, California, will produce sufficient energy to power 1,108 properties per yr. The 4 MWac Redemeyer Road Solar mission in Ukiah will incorporate a 16 MWh battery that can produce sufficient energy to power 934 properties per yr. The Redemeyer mission will even be the primary regionally sited solar + storage mission for Sonoma Clean Power.
“These Renewable Properties projects will be instrumental in helping SCP to bring our customers the many benefits of generating locally sited renewable energy,” mentioned Deb Emerson, managing director, power procurement, at Sonoma Clean Power. “By combining solar and energy storage with our geothermal plant, these groundbreaking projects can serve as a model for other regions seeking to achieve local renewable energy goals.”
Twin Pines Circle Solar and Redemeyer Road Solar add to Renewable Properties’ rising portfolio of native renewables initiatives for CCAs. To date, Renewable Properties has partnered with 4 different California CCAs on solar initiatives, and Redemeyer Road Solar would be the second storage mission with a CCA. Projects together with storage are rising as a result of new energy storage incentives within the Inflation Reduction Act, that are making initiatives like these cheaper.
