Paonia, CO, March 28, 2022 – Solar Energy International (SEI) is proud to announce our non-profit’s choice as members of Code-Making Panel 13 of the National Electrical Code (NEC®), which covers Article 706 “Energy Storage Systems” together with a number of different Articles germane to battery and storage purposes. SEI Instructor Karo Fernandez has joined CMP-13 because the Principal, with famous PV and storage skilled Jason Fisher additionally representing SEI as her Alternate.
And for 2 cycles (2020 and 2023) SEI has been represented on Code-Making Panel 4, which covers Article 690 “Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Systems, together with a number of different key Articles, by SEI teacher Rebekah Hren (Principal) and SEI curriculum developer and teacher Brian Mehalic (Alternate).
This is an incredible honor and duty: SEI’s ongoing participation on this course of provides a voice to our instructors, college students, and alumni at the moment working within the trade. SEI’s years of expertise and dedication to the solar and storage industries will complement the viewpoints and powerful illustration already offered by producers, commerce industries, labor organizations, utilities, and AHJs.

Most of the work for the 2023 version of the NEC® has already been accomplished; the second draft is on the market for viewing at NFPA.org, and the ultimate model must be launched later this fall. Believe it or not, quickly after that work will start on the subsequent cycle!
